‘নদী বাঁচাও জীবন বাঁচাও আন্দোলন’ অরুণাচল প্রদেশের সিয়াং ভ্যালিতে সিয়াং নদীর ওপর নদী-পরিবেশের বাস্তুতন্ত্র ধ্বংসকারী স্থানীয় মানুষের স্বার্থের পরিপন্থী প্রস্তাবিত ১১,৫০০ মেগাওয়াট মাল্টিপারপাস হাইড্র প্রজেক্ট বাতিলের জন্য আন্দোলনরত স্থানীয় মানুষের প্রতি সংহতি জানায়। পুলিশ সহ আধা সেনা মোতায়েন করে স্থানীয় মানুষের প্রতিবাদের কন্ঠরোধের প্রচেষ্টার প্রতিবাদ জানায় এবং চূড়ান্ত অনৈতিক ভাবে গ্রেপ্তার হওয়া এবো মিলির নি:শর্ত মুক্তির দাবী জানায়।
বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতা বলছে এই ধরনের বাঁধ কখনই সুদূরপ্রসারী কোন সমস্যার সমাধান হতে পারে না। বরঞ্চ ভবিষ্যতে বিরাট প্রাকৃতিক বিপর্যয় ডেকে আনতে বাধ্য।
‘নদী বঁচাও জীবন বাঁচাও আন্দোলন’ নদীর অবিরল ও নির্মল ধারাকে রুদ্ধ করে নদী বাস্তুতন্ত্র ধ্বংসকারী বাঁধের বিরোধী। নদী ব্যবহারের ধারনা ও পদ্ধতি বদলের জন্য সোচ্চার। এই গ্রহের সামগ্রিক বাস্তুতন্ত্র রক্ষার্থে নদীর জীবিত অস্তিত্বের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে নদীর দু:খ নিরসনের বদলে তথাকথিত উন্নয়নের চাহিদা পূরণের লক্ষে সরকার পোষিত কর্পোরেট স্বার্থে সর্বজনীন প্রাকৃতিক সম্বল নদীকে হত্যার চক্রান্তের তীব্র বিরোধী।
একই সাথে দেশের সংবিধান প্রদত্ত বাক স্বাধীনতা, শান্তিপূর্ণ জমায়েত, বিরোধিতা, প্রতিবাদ, মিছিল করার মতো সাধারন নাগরিকের মৌলিক ও গণতান্ত্রিক অধিকারকে ক্ষুন্ন করতে রাষ্ট্রশক্তির যেকোন ধরনের বল প্রয়োগের বিরোধিতা করে ‘নদী বাঁচাও জীবন বাঁচাও আন্দলন।’
‘নদী বাঁচাও জীবন বাঁচাও আন্দোলন’ কেন্দ্রীয় ও সংশ্লিষ্ট রাজ্য সরকারের কাছে দাবী জানায় উক্ত প্রজেক্ট নিয়ে স্থানীয় মানুষের নদী কেন্দ্রীক পরম্পরাগত জ্ঞান ও মতামতকে সর্বাধিক গুরুত্ব দিয়ে দ্রুত আলোচনার মাধ্যমে সমস্যার সমাধান করতে প্রয়োজনীয় উদ্যোগ গ্রহন করার।

Statement on the Anti-Dam Movement in Arunachal Pradesh.
‘Nodi Banchao Jibon Banchao Andolon’ expresses its full solidarity with the local people protesting in the Siang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh against the proposed 11,500 MW multipurpose hydroelectric project on the Siang River — a project that threatens to destroy the riverine ecosystem and runs contrary to the interests of the local communities.
We strongly condemn the attempts to silence the voices of protest through the deployment of police and paramilitary forces, and we demand the immediate and unconditional release of Abo Mili, who has been arrested in an entirely unethical and unjustified manner.
Past experience has shown that such dams never provide long-term solutions to the problems they claim to address. On the contrary, they inevitably invite vast natural disasters in the future.
‘Nodi Banchao Jibon Banchao Andolon’ stands firmly against any dam that obstructs the uninterrupted and unpolluted flow of the river, thereby destroying the river’s ecosystem. We advocate for a change in the mindset and methods by which rivers are utilised. To safeguard the planet’s overall ecological balance, we resolutely oppose any conspiracy — driven by government-sponsored corporate interests — to kill a river, which is a universal natural commons, in the name of so-called developmental demands, instead of addressing the river’s own distress and ecological needs.
At the same time, ‘Nodi Banchao Jibon Banchao Andolon’ firmly opposes any use of state force that undermines citizens’ fundamental and democratic rights — as guaranteed by the Constitution — including the freedom of speech, peaceful assembly, dissent, protest, and demonstration.
We call upon the central and concerned state governments to prioritise the traditional knowledge and perspectives of the local river-dependent communities and to take all necessary steps to resolve the issue through prompt and meaningful dialogue.
